Went out to Orchard with Ber, Sheila & Jo on Tuesday night after dental :]

After 1.5 hours, Joanne bought a top. ("Yay, she broke the zero score!" - Sheila)

Haha.. but i didn't do so badly :] i tried on 4 dresses and 3 tops. 1 top and 1 dress was nice BUT expensive. The other 3 dresses were too long (or maybe i was too short) and 2 tops were too big.

Anyway, ended up buying 3 books from Borders!! (Which shall come from my clothes money since i'm supposed to be saving =.-) Haha.. so been nicely holed up at home (with an abundance of kueh buloh, pineapple tarts, walnut milk, chicken pie, mushroom soup, carrot soup, broccoli soup, chocolate fondants, cookies plus lots of snacks left from christmas) and thankfully i've only gained 0.5 kg. Hohoho.. Finished 1 book on Tuesday, another on Wednesday. Starting on the 3rd. 2 of the books are chicklit, and i'm glad i read them in the order i did, because apparently it's getting from shallow to deeper and deeper still. :]

From The Cupid Effect by Dorothy Koomson:

That was the truly ironic thing about my life, really. I could connect with people quickly. People dragged me into the deepest enclaves of their lives in the blink of an eye, but i had hardly anyone i could do that with. I gave - my time, my ear, my advice - but rarely received. Ceri D'Altroy, she who was open to callers 24/7, couldn't get the time of day from most people.

What struck me the most was the fact that i did that to God. Can I truly be His friend if there's only this 1-way deal, where i always approach Him for advice and help on what to do, what vision should i have, etc. Leaving my prayer closet feeling recharged by His love and presence, with ambitions to conquer the world. But i was thinking and ruminating on this when i asked myself, what exactly constitutes a friend? What do people do to become better friends?

They spend time with each other, with no ulterior motive. No need to unload and needing someone, anyone, to listen and give advice. But just spending time with each other, even if there's silence, because you enjoy and want to be with this person.

Being open to sharing, and also being open to listen. I want to be like King David, who was a man after God's own heart. I believe he was such a good friend of God's, who loved God so much that he wanted to know what bothered God, what made Him pleased or grieved. He wanted to do as much as possible to lessen His friend's grief, and to make Him happy. He chased after God's heart and found it.

1 thing i learn from counseling is that the counselor's mantra - contrary to popular belief - is to keep the contact with any particular person to the barest minimum. No year-after-year of going once a week to this patient confidante who knows all your secrets. Despite the belief that yeah, we'll be here beside you - but it's not for the whole journey. And i realised that as the modules rolled on, that counseling is a profession. Counselors are professionals; although they'll get caught into your life by empathising with your emotions. But they're not what constitutes a friend. A friendship is a 2-way thing.

No one ever feels good being a person that everyone approaches for help, only. Take the smartest girl in class whose phone only rings so often before project/assignment datelines or exams. I feel thankful that i've someone who's always been there.

Holy Spirit, you're my counselor and my guide, my comfort in times of need. But i don't want to need You, i want to want You - as a closest friend.
