Was just playing the guitar and worshipping during my quiet time and suddenly thought about the Tower of Babel. It struck me as odd that the bible didn't say that the people were one together in spirit, or that the people came together for the purpose of God. Yet because they spoke the same language, nothing they planned to do will be impossible for them!
To be sure, they had to flow with the same vision and spirit for this great building project they had in mind to build. Every one of them knew the purpose of this tower and all shared in the same enthusiasm and commitment for it.
Many organisations and corporations pay good money for psychologists and HR personnel who studied organizational behaviour in order to create a united workforce that is willing and loyal to the company. But the key to this is simple - communication!
Leaders communicated clearly their visions and passed on the same enthusiasm, urgency and burden to their followers.
Followers communicated clearly any difficulties or successes along the way.
In all this, the followers know what the leaders want and the leaders know what the followers need.
What is more, we have the Holy Spirit who is the one who comes in and touches the hearts of men to turn us toward one another. I used to think that I had to wait for the Holy Spirit to come and melt my heart, but I realised that I can also make that decision to break myself before Him and open my heart to let His love heal and refresh me.
Like what Pastor Tan shared today, just like how we plan our finances well by setting aside 10% for tithes..10% for savings..10% for investments etc. We've also got to number our days and learn to plan on time and energy as well by putting our energy into the things that are of utmost importance. Like communicating with our family members, friends and leaders. It is hard because it is easy to just spend most of the time communicating with each other through facebook or sms, but sometimes it just takes that little effort to stretch a little and go the extra mile to make time for one another.
Then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them! :]
