The good thing about Sociology is that there are people who take the time, step back and look at what's going wrong with the world and come up with solutions to that. Of course, the bad thing would be if those solutions actually create more problems... but that's besides the point.
Is it true that Youth - this phase in life - is depicted romantically in our society today? Yeah... i kinda think so. There's all these ideas about teenage angst, youth subcultures..the golden age. But besides all that, the reality is that we're all looking for who we really are; we struggle with who we want to be and who we think we ought to be. Most of the time, we just try so hard to be who we want to be without addressing who we really are. And sometimes we just focus on who we are and can't move on.
"All i see are choices, waiting to be made..."
We find our identities through the friendships we have, the social roles we play: cousin, daughter, sister, brother, grandson, friend. And we change to do the right thing befitting these roles all the time. But without all these, who am i really? Can i not have to rely on friends to tell me that i'm kind and nice before i think i am a good person? Why is it that there are certain poignant moments when behind a closed door, lost in music, that i literally sigh, let down my guard and just be myself? And who sees that? Will anyone else ever see that real me?
Someone once said: "Just live for yourself." Not in a selfish context, but without having to fear and care about other's opinions of you. That is a possible solution.
But there's an alternative too. Is it possible, to live for someone who will never ever hurt you; or let you down; make a promise and then break it. Someone who knows who you really are and it's ok, you can be yourself with him? You can love like you've never been hurt, there's a freedom to give and not fear rejection, free from judgment or too-high expectations we can never reach. He knows fully who you can be, what you can do, what you are like, and you don't have to do anything beyond that to make him stay. He's yours to keep just as you are his to stay. I don't want to live for myself, i want to live for him.
